About Breast Health Day
EUROPA DONNA – The European Breast Cancer Coalition holds Breast Health Day on 15 October to disseminate information about breast health and to raise awareness of prevention and early detection of breast cancer among women and girls across Europe.
The first Breast Health Day featured a special launch event in Milan, Italy on 15 October 2008.
In 2009, Europa Donna partnered with world champion tennis player Arantxa Sánchez-Vicario and launched a call-to-action at a press event in Brussels. A video e-card was created and viewed by 5.000 people in 58 countries around the world. The campaign generated 232 articles around Europe, including blogs and postings on Twitter.
In 2010, BHD reminded women that physical activity, a healthy diet and weight control can help their breast health; a digital campaign, including an interactive video and a widget, encouraged women across the globe to make responsible daily choices for their breast health.
The 2011 campaign featured a unique new video that engaged women from around the world. In addition, the campaign ran on Facebook and Twitter to urge women to Make Healthy Choices for their future breast health. Women added their picture to be part of the exciting video that was released on YouTube on 15 October.
In 2012 the Breast Health Day campaign focused on Making good choices for your breast health; a video with lively graphics illustrated the important positive choices that women and girls should make and study results on lifestyle from the IARC were highlighted on You tube. Many countries are now participating in disseminating prevention information both on social media and in their local campaigns.
The 2013 Breast Health Day Campaign “Make Good Choices for your Breast Health” building on the previous year’s campaign, continued to remind women that engaging in physical activity, maintaining a normal body weight and eating a healthy diet can help protect their breast health. The campaign featured a new animated video showing the importance of making good vs. bad choices when it comes to physical activity, eating a healthy diet, etc. Women also could make a commitment for their breast health. The digital campaign continued on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube with Twitter reaching more than 1 million people
The 2014 Breast Health Day campaign “Take Your First Step for your Breast Health” featured a new animated video encouraging women to take their first step and engage in physical activity, maintain a normal body weight and eat a healthy diet which can help protect their breast health.
The 2015 Breast Health Day campaign “Make Good Choices For Your Breast Health Every Day” featured a new animated video encouraging women to make good choices by engaging in physical activity, maintaining a normal body weight and eating a healthy diet which can help protect their breast health.
EUROPA DONNA has also published a Guide to Breast Health encompassing key aspects of breast health.
