Event at the European Parliament on the Future of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan

On 23rd March, MEP Tilly Metz brought together key stakeholders at the European Parliament to discuss the future of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and its path towards full implementation.

Marzia Zambon, CEO of Europa Donna, represented the organisation in this important consultation, sharing key insights alongside leading voices from the cancer and healthcare community.

While the EBCP has laid strong foundations (from improved data access to tools such as the Inequality Registry) a clear message emerged: we must now move from planning to action.

Concerns around future funding were openly raised. Without sustained political will and dedicated resources, there is a real risk that progress could stall.

Health must remain a top priority within the EU agenda. With cancer cases projected to rise significantly in the coming years, continued investment in prevention, research, and equitable access to care is essential.

At Europa Donna, key priorities for the way forward were highlighted:
🔺 Ensuring strong political commitment and funding for full EBCP implementation
🔺 Strengthening primary and secondary prevention, including screening uptake
🔺 Supporting independent cancer research through EU programmes
🔺 Advancing gender-aware healthcare and research
🔺 Recognising and addressing the burden of informal caregiving

Cancer will impact every European family in the decades ahead. The time to act is now: decisively, collectively and without delay.
