UICC Webinar on Strengthening Political Momentum for Breast Cancer
At the invitation of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), within the framework of its Breast Cancer Quality of Care Initiative (BCCQI) and following the Advanced Breast Cancer (ABC) Decade Report presented by Fatima Cardoso representing ABC Global Alliance’s project, on 31st March Europa Donna’s CEO Marzia Zambon contributed to a global dialogue on the topic of Strengthening Political Momentum for Breast Cancer: leveraging new tools and data for advocacy. Aligned with the World Health Organization Global Breast Cancer Initiative (GBCI), this virtual dialogue brought together around 100 participants on how to accelerate political engagement on breast cancer.
Through Europa Donna’s Breast Health Day campaign (running yearly since 2008 and recently brought to the European Parliament Public Health Committee SANT to see the 15th October declared as European Day for Breast Health), Marzia highlighted the critical role of prevention, not as a direct intervention for those already diagnosed, but as a strategic approach to help curb future incidence, reduce the overall burden of disease, and ultimately slow the growing wave of breast cancer worldwide.
By connecting advocacy with actionable tools and policy engagement, this dialogue reinforced the need for stronger global commitment to prevention, early detection, and equitable care as essential pillars in addressing the impact of breast cancer on societies everywhere.
