Europa Donna Contributes to the 6th WECAN Academy

Europa Donna CEO Marzia Zambon joined the faculty of the 6th WECAN Academy, held in Gdańsk, Poland, where she contributed to training the next generation of European cancer patient advocates.

The four-day programme brought together patient advocates from across Europe to strengthen their knowledge and skills in areas including research, healthcare policy, advocacy, governance and patient involvement. Alongside the educational sessions, the Academy provided valuable opportunities for participants from different cancer organisations to exchange experiences, build lasting connections and learn from one another.

Reflecting on the event, Marzia highlighted the enthusiasm and commitment of the participants, describing them as a new generation of advocates who will continue to strengthen the patient voice across Europe. She also acknowledged the remarkable growth of WECAN over the past decade—from a small initiative founded by committed advocates into a thriving community that has trained hundreds of patient leaders and become an important force for collaboration, education and advocacy.

Europa Donna was also represented by former President Tanja Spanic, who shared her expertise on volunteer management and presented the successful experience of Europa Donna Slovenia. Her participation further reinforced the Coalition’s long-standing commitment to developing strong, knowledgeable and connected patient advocates across Europe.
