Europa Donna Highlights Women’s Cancer Inequalities at ECOP 2026

On 12 June, Europa Donna Executive Board Member Dominika Kormanová presented the findings of the Women & Cancer Policy Index, a benchmarking tool launched by the European Cancer Organisaiton, at the 7th European Conference of Oncology Pharmacy (ECOP) in Ljubljana. Speaking on behalf of Europa Donna and the European Cancer Organisation’s Patient Advisory Committee, she highlighted the persistent inequalities women face across Europe in cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship.

The Women & Cancer Policy Index reveals significant disparities between countries, showing that a woman’s chances of surviving cancer and accessing timely, high-quality care can still depend on where she lives. Differences in organised screening programmes, access to innovative treatments, and support for informal caregivers continue to affect outcomes across Europe.

Addressing the conference’s Patient Panel, Dominika emphasised that these data should serve as a catalyst for action, helping countries identify gaps, learn from best practices, and develop more gender-sensitive cancer policies. She also stressed the importance of ensuring that patient voices are included wherever cancer policy decisions are made.
